Is there a best day to send e-mails?
When should I send my e-mails to get the highest open rate possible? It is a question that many businesses still ask. The truth is that there is no such thing as a best day since everything depends from the kinds of e-mails you send, your target groups and the nature of your business.
Obviously, you want to send your e-mails when your audience is online and receptive to incoming e-mails. This can be different in B2B and B2C. On top of that, in B2B you will often send e-mails in function of specific customer-induced triggers. However, if you send e-mails or newsletters on a fixed day of the week or month, which is often the case in newsletters, there are some rules of thumb.
It is usually best not to send your e-mails at the weekend in B2B environments. It seems obvious, but it is not, as sometimes there are exceptions.
You will notice that at the weekend, traffic on B2C media generally increases and traffic on B2B media falls.
However, weekend traffic on B2B media is sometimes higher than you would expect. Why? Sometimes you just get lucky: someone with many followers on Twitter decided to retweet a text on your medium, for example. Or a very popular website mentions your site in a new article.
The never on Monday or Friday rule
Sometimes the only time of the week marketing professionals can catch up with their reading and learning is at the weekend.
In any case, be very careful with general rules.
Still, most experts agree that B2B e-mails are best sent on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a particular preference for Tuesdays and Thursdays.
So why not Mondays? Just look at how you behave yourself at work on the first day of the week. You are probably still recovering from what you have been doing at the weekend and there may be a ton of work waiting for you that you were unable to finish the previous week.
And why not Fridays? Examine how on Fridays you often think about the coming weekend. It is the end of the week, and by now you could also be tired of everything to do with your job.
You may be wondering which day is best for your company. You can find the answer by testing your mailings on several days and establishing what works best for you.
Studies have shown that more than 70% of all e-mails are sent on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is also often said that more than 60% of all e-mails are opened between Tuesday and Thursday.
But remember this: it is not because most people agree on something that it is the absolute truth. Every company, every target group is different each day, which is why it is important to carry out tests and to continue testing.
